Last spring, I spotted a flyer that was advertising an open call for a Pride exhibition in Athens, NY. Thrilled by the opportunity, I applied right away and convinced Hala to do the same. By June, our work was selected and on the day I dropped it off at the gallery, Carter was sitting at the front desk ready as ever to make a new friend. What I later learned was that she, along with another local queer artist, organized the first LGBTQ+ exhibition in Greene County.
Yesterday, Carter graciously hosted Hala, Heart, and me in her home. Her pup, Bodie, was delighted.
Today was strange and it was partially due to my work routine being off balance, but I also have been fantasizing about spending my time volunteering on a sloop over a 9-5. Sometimes I wonder why it can’t be that simple.
Pictured: I didn’t go for my normal afternoon stroll, but I did spot how beautifully this building contrasted the sky when I left the office.
What a joy it is to watch my mom and Hala dance around the kitchen and haphazardly try to pose in front of my camera.
